Two More MARK MILLAR Titles Optioned As Movies

The Mark Millar-written titles American Jesus and Supercrooks have been optioned by Waypoint Entertainmenticon1.png for possible films, according to Deadline. Waypoint has a first-look deal with Addictive Pictures, with representatives from both companies onboard these two projects as producers.

“I only come to LA one week a year and do all my meetings in the pub during those seven days every September. On my most recent trip I met these guys and was wowed by their plans and the scale they’re working on. Leinil and I couldn’t be more delighted to have Supercrooks up and running with such talented people,” Millar said. “Peter Gross and I have held American Jesus back for a decade until the right team came along. This really is that team! The level of talent we’re talking about behind the cameraicon1.png has us all ridiculously excited. Fans of the books are in for an absolute treat.”

Originally published by Dark Horse under the title Chosen, American Jesus was illustrated by Peter Gross and concerns a pre-teen boy who discovers he is the second coming of Christ. In 2009, Millar announced that Kick-Ass and The Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn was directing and producing an adaptation of American Jesus, but no further developments on that version of the project were announced.

Supercrooks was illustrated by Leinel Francis Yu for Marvel’s Icon imprint, with the story of a group of retiredicon1.png supervillains returning for one last heist. A live-action version of this project was previously in development with director Nacho Vigalondo.

Looks Like Nathan Fillion Is Playing ‘SPOILER’ In Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Vol. 2

A bunch of fake movie posters from the set of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy sequel seem to reveal that Nathan Fillion will be playing an established Marvel Comics character. More past the jump…

It would seem James Gunn has drafted his old pal Nathan Fillion (Serenity, Slither) in for an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, playing none other than Simon Williams, AKA Wonder Man.

In the comics Williams started out as a villain before putting his wicked ways behind him and joining The Avengers. He later retired to pursue and acting career, which is referenced by these mock movie posters that were sent to

Whether Fillion actually shows up onscreen as Williams in the movie or not remains to be seen of course, as there’s every chance these posters will just be used as background easter eggs. Still, pretty cool I’m sure you’ll agree.

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is produced by Marvel Studios’ president, Kevin Feige, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jonathan Schwartz, Nik Korda and Stan Lee serving as executive producers.

The Marvel sequel is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.

UPDATE: FANTASTIC FOUR Rumored, Could Be Back With Marvel; First Movie In 2020

The Reason Inhumans was Pulled from the MCU Schedule?

Rumors of Fox striking up a deal with Marvel that will allow them to produce TV and film with the Fantastic Four are starting to come up again. Here’s an UPDATE: Silver Surfer, Galactus, Doctor Doom included in deal…

Could we finally see the Fantastic Four back under the Marvel Studios umbrella? That’s what is reporting, anyway. According to them the deal is still in the works, and in exchange for Fox being allowed to develop the Legion and Hellfire TV shows, Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, The Human Torch – and presumably all characters associated with them – will return home.

This probably isn’t that surprising given the critical and commercial disaster that Josh Trank’s recent reboot became – but Fox did seem adamant that they were going ahead with a sequel, so perhaps they were just trying to throw people off the scent.

Oh, and remember those mystery 2020 Marvel movies that were announced along with the Ant-Man and The Wasp news? Apparently Fantastic Four could be one of ’em.

This is only being reported as a rumor for the time being, but it does make a lot of sense. We’ll update if and when any more information comes our way.

UPDATE: “Having asked for some clarification from our source, we understand that the deal Marvel have made with Fox – which will see Fantastic Four returned to the Marvel fold in exchange for the X-Men TV rights – also includes the rights to villains Galactus and Doctor Doom, as well as the Silver Surfer.”

INHUMANS No Longer Has a Release Date

Inhumans Release Date

Ch-ch-changes! After reports from Twitter that Marvel Phase 3 film, Inhumans—slated for 2019—was pushed with no release date in sight, we here at Nerdist can now confirm that to be true.

Though the news is not a total surprise, as on April 11, 2016, Kevin Feige spoke with Entertainment Weekly and explained that he expected the film to be pushed back. Today is the first confirmed indication from Marvel/Disney.

Why the change of heart? Well, since the announcement of the Marvel film slate in 2014, there have been a lot of changes. The release dates of Captain Marvel and Black Panther were shifted to make way for new projects such as Thor: Ragnarok, and Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Recently, Marvel also announced a sequel to the 2015 Ant-Man film, Ant-Man and Wasp. In addition, Disney has a few films of their own releasing within this time frame, so in order to not create friction, the Inhumans movie was moved.

Feige confirmed with Collider that the Inhumans film will still happen, he is just not sure when:

“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.”

If you watch Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you already know they introduced the Inhumans by way of one of the main characters, Chloe Bennett. However, that only scratches the surface on the Inhumans. In fact, the Inhumans are a royal family of meta-humans lead by the king and queen of their species, Black Bolt and Medusa. Their powers originate from the Terrigen Mists, as younger members must travel into the mist to obtain their power.

Feige is a huge fan of the Inhumans series and has been pushing for a film since the very beginning, so we’re far from ready to give up hope just yet.

So, what do you think happened here? Did Marvel conduct focus groups and found that movie-goers were not excited about the Inhumans and decided to pull the plug for now? Or do you believe there’s something bigger behind-the-scenes that we do not know about? Negotiations between FOX and Disney regarding the film rights of the X-Men are becoming more favorable and a fourth Iron Man film are two of the things that have been floating around in the Internet.
