Captain America Writer Nick Spencer Gets Death Threats On Social Media

So who got death threats yesterday? Oh that’s right, Nick Spencer, for writing a Captain America comic book that they didn’t like (though with art from Jesus Saiz, how could they not??)

Nick Spencer ‎@nickspencer

I can’t respond to 9000 tweets per second, but if I could, I would say I admire your passion

9:44 AM – 25 May 2016

It’s at this point that I’d like to reiterate that Captain America is a fictional character. Marvel Comics is invested in Captain America. Wherever the story will end up, Steve Rogers will probably not actually be a Nazi. And no matter how much you don’t like his story (especially if you didn’t actually read the thing) sending him a death threat on social media is even less like Captain America isn’t it?

#Marvel‘s new ‘#CaptainAmerica: Steve Rogers #1′ comic ends with a shocking revelation:

Kara ‎@KaraDiDomizio

@EW @Marvel yeah, no. Considering that the original authors were Jewish men writing against Nazi oppression this makes no sense at all.

4001 A.D. Starts This Week And We Have A Preview

Valiant is about to kick off their newest crossover event, 4001 A.D. with the first issue hitting stores on May 4th. The issue is written by Matt Kindt and drawn by Clayton Crain and David Mack and with covers by Crain, Tula Lotay, Ryan Bodenheim,Clayton Henry, Ryan Lee and Ryan Sook. Here is an extended preview for 4001 A.D.#1.

One hundred years from today, Father – the benevolent artificial intelligence that governs the island nation of Japan – will gain sentience. To defend its borders, Father will take drastic action by launching Japan into space…where its people will thrive in isolation, away from the overpopulated and resource-deprived planet below. Over the centuries, as New Japan orbits our increasingly unstable world, it will become a model society – one built on peace, prosperity… and Father’s control.

A thousand years from today, Father will create the first Rai, founding a lineage of technologically enhanced heroes engineered to defend New Japan and sworn to protect it from all enemies. For hundreds of years into the future, the Rai will single-handedly enforce New Japan’s justice well…and serve Father without question.

Now, at the dawn of 4001 A.D., the latest Rai is about to inherit the dark truth behind the origin of his kind…and discover the sinister secret at the heart of Father’s existence. For New Japan to live, Earth must die…and as Rai challenges his former master for the first time in more than a millennium, the lone guardian of New Japan will be cast out of his own Father’s kingdom…

Exiled from the only realm he’s ever known, Rai now walks the ravaged world of 4001 A.D. in search of forgotten heroes like himself… on a mission to collect the last surviving legends of a broken planet…and to forge a rebellion with the power to bring the most advanced civilization in history crashing back down to Earth.

Joshua Williamson Signs Exclusive Deal With DC, Announces Vertigo Series Frostbite

DC Comics has announced a new series from their beleaguered mature readers imprint, Vertigo Comics, Frostbite. It comes as he writes the new Flash series for Rebirth, beginning in June, and signs an exclusive deal with DC.

The six issue series with Jason Shawn Alexander will debut in September.

FROSTBITE follows Keaton, a South American woman and a “coyote,” a human trafficker specializing in no-questions-asked transportation of people across dangerous landscapes. Decades earlier, the world entered a new ice age; though the remaining populace has survived and adapted to the frozen environment using new technology, the weather is not their biggest danger. A new disease nicknamed “Frostbite” is making its way across the remaining communities. It literally turns people into ice, slowly freezing the moisture in their cells. Keaton and her crew are tasked with transporting two scientists from Mexico to a science lab on Alcatraz where they are working on a cure. It should be easy; after all, it’s only an elderly man and his adult daughter. But when the transport is attacked Keaton finds out that the scientist and his daughter have a bounty on their heads, and this simple transport job becomes very, very complicated.

For the second time today, Newsarama readers can exclusively preview pages from an upcoming Rebirth title DC Comics initially showed us during a visit to their Burbank officesicon1.pngearlier this month – in this case June’s Detective Comics #934.

“Batman seems to be drawing the various caped crusaders of Gotham into one cohesive orbit, offering the religious zealot Azrael and troubled vigilante Batwoman a place in what has been described as Batman’s trainingicon1.png squad,” our contributor recalled.

“RISE OF THE BATMEN” chapter one. An unknown predator begins outdoing Batman, taking down dangerous threats with military precisionicon1.png. It’s up to the Dark Knight and series costar Batwoman to rally and train the young heroes of Gotham City to end this mysterious threat!
